Qi Wireless charging expansion board

The Qi wireless charging expansion board allow to charge the Crazyflie 2.0 using a standard Qi wireless charger. The board is designed to privide up to 1A which means that the charging speed should be equivalent as when using USB to charge. Using a wireless charger is convenient (just put the copter on the charger and pick it up later charged) but mostly it allows new interesting use case like autonomously landing on the charger for extended autonomous flight system.

The board is designed to be installed as the last board on the bottom of the Crazyflie 2.0. It does not have pass-throw holes for the expansion port connector.

This expansion board has few Crazyflie 2.0-specific components, so it can be used as a wireless-5V power supply for other project.

The board works by injecting 5V in the Crazyflie 2.0 VUSB line. In consequence it is recommended not to connect the Crazyflie to a 5V USB charger while the Qi expansion board is installed. Furthermore connecting a USB charger while the Qi-equipped crazyflie 2.0 is put on a wireless charger must be avoided.

Specification

  • Based on the TI BQ51013B
  • Can supply up to 1A at 5V
  • Supports the Qi wireless charging standard (WPC V1.1)
  • 1-wire memory for automatic expansion board detection
  • Designed for mounting under the Crazyflie 2.0
  • Mechanical specification:
    • Weight: 5.0g
    • Size (WxHxD): 30x30x5mm

Charger compatibility

The Qi wireless charger expansion board should work with any Qi-compatible wireless charger pad. It has been tested with an off-the-shelf no-name charger pad.
