Qi Wireless charging expansion board

The Qi wireless charging expansion board allows charging the Crazyflie 2.0 battery with a standard Qi wireless charger. The board is designed to provide up to 1A which means that the charging speed should be equivalent to USB charging. Using a wireless charger is convenient (just put the Crazyflie on the charger and pick it up later once charged) but mostly it allows new and interesting use cases such as autonomously landing on the charger to enable an extended autonomous flight system.

The board is designed to be installed as the last board on the bottom of the Crazyflie 2.0. It does not have pass-through holes for the expansion port connector.

This expansion board has very few Crazyflie 2.0-specific components, so it can still be used as a wireless 5V power supply for other projects.

The board works by injecting 5V into the Crazyflie 2.0 VUSB line. As a consequence, it is not recommended to connect the Crazyflie to a 5V USB charger while the Qi expansion board is installed. Furthermore, do not connect a USB charger while a Qi-equipped Crazyflie 2.0 is sitting on a wireless charger.

Specification

  • Based on the TI BQ51013B
  • Can supply up to 1A at 5V
  • Supports the Qi wireless charging standard (WPC V1.1)
  • 1-wire memory for automatic expansion board detection
  • Designed for mounting under the Crazyflie 2.0
  • Mechanical specification:
    • Weight: 5.0g
    • Size (WxHxD): 30x30x5mm

Charger compatibility

The Qi wireless charger expansion board should work with any Qi-compatible wireless charger pad. It has been tested with an off-the-shelf, no-name charger pad.
